Unterschiedliche Nutzungen haben unterschiedliche Anforderungen an das Bauwerk, was für eine Leichtathletikveranstaltung gut ist, kann bei einem Fußballspiel störend sein, so leiden die Sichtverhältnisse des Publikums speziell unter dem großen Abstand zum Spielfeld - dem Ort des Geschehens - der sich durch die dazwischenliegende Laufbahn und Weitsprunganlage ergibt. In den Stadionbauten der letzten Jahre ist daher international ein klarer Trend in Richtung Spezialisierung zu erkennen. Viele Leichtathletikanlagen weichen reinen Fußballarenen, die dem Zuschauer gute Sicht bieten und zum anderen den von den Clubs erwünschten Heimvorteil durch dichtere Atmosphäre bringen. Das Linzer Stadion dient traditionell nicht nur dem Fußball, sondern auch der Leichtathletik als Austragungsort. Der Entwurf sieht ein neues polysportives Stadion am alten Standort auf der Gugl vor, welches unter Berücksichtigung der UEFA-Richtlinien und den Vorgaben des Internationalen Leichtathletikverbandes, die logistischen Schwächen des Altbaus beseitigt, und als Wahrnehmungsmaschine vor allem die Sichtbedingungen und somit den Komfort des Publikums, abhängig von der jeweiligen Veranstaltung optimiert. Mobile Tribünensysteme kommen zum Einsatz. Zurückhaltend gliedert sich der Bau in seine städtische, von Wohnbau und Parklandschaften geprägte Umgebung ein, um zugleich als identitätsstiftendes Symbol der Sportkultur zu wirken.

Different usages demand different requirements to a building. Something that's essential for an athletic-competition might be annoying for a football-match. The sight-conditions of the spectators suffer especially from the big distance to the football-ground - the place of happening - which is a result of the disposition of the athletic-track and jump-facilities in between. As to new developments there is an international trend to more specialization. A lot of athletic-stadiums are substituted by football-arenas, which on the one hand offer good sight-conditions to the spectators, and on the other hand bring a home field advantage to the clubs, in consequence of a denser atmosphere. The stadium of Linz is traditional home ground for football-matches as well as for athletic-meetings. The project plans a new polysportive stadium at the old site "Auf der Gugl", following the instructions of the UEFA and the IAAF, eliminating the logistic failings of the old building and optimizing the sight conditions and comfort for the spectators depending to the event. Alternative stands-systems are used. Cautious the building aligns to its urban surroundings of dwelling and park landscape. Also it appears as an identity-symbol for the whole local sports-culture.
